We hope to be back soon.

It was beautiful there. Loved the shuttle that took us around the resort because we couldn’t handle all the stairs. Loved the afternoon at the buffet on the beach, and the evening taco spot up stairs. The piano guy was GREAT for entertainment seeing as we are NOT late night NOISY PEOPLE.

Honestly not much just found getting around difficult due to stairs, AND the elevators not accessing all floors. We just couldn’t get to the lobby bar that was down stairs from the main lobby. Other customers were nice enough to bring us drinks up stairs.

Good

The hotel is beautifully located in the middle of the jungle, close to Xcaret parks. The à la carte restaurant is excellent, and the staff is friendly and polite. Unfortunately, these are the only positives.

The rooms do not deserve a 5-star rating. They are poorly cleaned, very old, and in desperate need of renovation. The air conditioning was moldy, and the entire room had a strong musty smell, making all our belongings damp. The hotel grounds were littered with trash that was not being cleaned by the staff. Entertainment and animations were of very poor quality. Breakfast had a limited selection, and there were long lines even for basic items like fried eggs. There was no complimentary café—only a paid option, which should not be the case in a 5-star hotel. We previously stayed at a Riu hotel in Playa del Carmen, and the standard there was incomparably better—at a lower price. Unfortunately, this hotel did not meet our expectations, and we would not return.

It’s alright but too pricey, I got misled by the information on internet I thought this hotel includes parks and it was

I liked the beach, the area surrounding was beautiful like being in the wild, most of the staff was friendly it was like two of them really moody.

The bedrooms are standard doesn’t worth the price, I have stayed in many hotels in playa del carmen for around the same price but luxury bedrooms and ocean views this one was average. A few people of the staff really moody the guy that takes people in a small canoa didn’t want to drive us to a park so lazy and rude. Another four people from the buffet restaurant as well moody and rude

Part of the staff would answer bad or make faces and seem like they we're doing you the favor and the golf cars at night passes to fast and won't stop for you and it almost seem like they were running over the guests

Atmosphere and location. Animals were fun to observe. Late night food option was good.

Some of the natural vegetation areas next to walking paths could be spiffed up. There was some visible garage like empty water bottles and concrete debris visible

Wonderful

Location near XCARET park - 3 min by foot or small boat. Amazing territory - natural park with iguanas, monkeys and deers. Good food.

Building 11 located in front of the scene where everyday occurs night shows- you cannot sleep till 22:30-23:00. Too noisy. AC has really strange noise every 30 min - like a growl.

The surrounding nature was spectacular. Lots of animals that can be seen. Even though the hotel was full, the pools didn't feel busy.

Wonderful

Breakfast excellent, other meals good, drinks excellent and availabale in many places. Only minus that many bars closed at 6 p.m. (those next to the pools and on the beach ). The whole area is very nice, beautiful and clean. Rooms clean, good service in restaurants / bars, evening programm high level. Would definately stay again if visit P. del Carmen. Taxi to the center of the city about 20 mins / Usd 30,-. A bit slow to sign in because of the long que on the desks, anyway after that everything works fine. Enough pools, very nice beach. Just next to the Xcaret park, easy to visit.

Loved the animals.

Loved the animals running around the resort. Excellent breakfast.

Long wait to check in. Some options at buffet were finished at 9-9.30pm. First concierge in our building was unhelpful to the point of obstructive when we didn’t want to listen to upgrade information. Had to visit guest services in person to book restaurants instead of phone or app.

Great experience

The very friendly and helpful staff. Clean pool and beach areas, variety of food for meals. Saw staff every day cleaning the grounds and picking up any trash they saw. Bar tenders were quick and efficient at making any sort of cocktail.

We stayed in building 18 and the music near that pool seemed louder than necessary each day. We were given some resort money, told the resort stores needed to accept it and some of the stores said they did not.

Gorgeous treed property, lots of fresh food options, beautiful water for swimming

We loved the property- it's gorgeous and treed and we ran into a little monkey, agoutis, koatis, as well as other animals during our stay. The proximity to Xcaret is really ideal. We were pleasantly surprised by the food (after reading so many negative comments). We actually really enjoyed all the food we ate- if you like fresh fruit and fresh vegetables you won't be disappointed with the buffet restaurants. The fruit and salad bar was great! All the food at the stations where they cook things for you in the moment was also really tasty and hot (omelettes, fried fish, tacos, etc). We skipped a lot of the other areas of the buffet most of the time- seemed like the food wasn't very warm or tasty. We had one night at an a la carte restaurant and we chose the Mexican restaurant. Was delicious! Paco's tacos was also really yummy. We found the drinks good and just asked them specifically not to make them too sweet. We also liked that they use reusable cups for the drinks- they're not just plastic that get thrown out. Even though the "beach"/inlet is small it never felt squished. Granted, we were there during the week and staff members did tell us that the whole place get's really crazy on the weekends. Something to think about if that matters to you. It was also nice to see many Mexican nationals at this hotel.

There was one day that we didn't have hot water for a shower. It would be nice for them to have large water dispensers at a couple places on the property instead of handing out the small plastic water bottles. They tried to sell us the 90 minute timeshare presentation and were very pushy about it. We already knew we didn't want to spend 90 minutes in a presentation for something we weren't interested in- even if we could a discount of it. Time is too precious to waste when you're on vacay!

Good new experience, but things to know...

It is a unique property in that it is very much a jungle, which is different than any other Barcelo property we have stayed at. We enjoyed the adults only pool as well, as we do not have small children. The location was exceptional as it borders the Xcaret park and made it very nice to go back and forth on the day we visited. We could go back and change in our room as well as come back to eat.

A little disappointed with the staff this time. Wait staff was a little lacking, as we had to wait and go find people to help us many times. They also did not seem as friendly as we have experienced in the past, maybe due to the fact that they are understaffed. We like a big long beach, and the small lagoon area was nice, but we missed having a place to go for long beach walks. We have stayed at many all-inclusive, and the food was a bit disappointing this time. Specialty spots were not great, and not having as many eating options as we have experienced made for a repetitive experience.
